Have you guys noticed that so many seemingly unknown artists are releasing fire covers lately? I’ve definitely taken note and I’ve been peppering my favs into these playlists. Earlier this week, I was passively listening to my S-cloud feed and all of a sudden I’m like, “Hmm how do I know all the lyrics to this song? Wait, a girl named Billie Jean may or may not be this guy’s lover? I know this!”

You can’t deny that the above picture of the King of Pop is amazing for a couple key reasons: First, Michael’s resting bitch face is on point and that judging glaze can follow you around a room; Second, Bubbles the chimp has solid I woke up like dis hair and that pose leads me to believe he was all, “I’m just casually hanging out here waiting for some Jesus juice but if you want to take my picture, I’m cool with it.” Heh. Too soon?

Did anyone else forget that Michael had a chimp BFF in the 80s? Life was wiiild back in those days!…or so I’ve heard. I’m much too young to know what anything was like before the late 90s *wink*. This is one of those instances when I wish the lie WOULD become the truth; You know, like Michael’s mom always told him…

And mother always told me be careful of who you love
And be careful of what you do ’cause the lie becomes the truth

I’ll see myself out.

The above image is Weezy’s rendition of how I look tonight because I’m expecting to have a snooooow daaaaaay tomorraaaaa!!! You may note from this glorious image that I’ve stacked two styrofoam cups of lean because I’m just getting started; I’m smoking that West coast icky; I have my Xmas Don Cherry party blazer on *obscure Canadian reference*; and I’m wearing my very chill white-as-snow-or-cocaine-depending-on-how-you-party bucket hat. Won’t this be awkward if I actually have to go to work in the morning?…Okay, in reality I just put a little extra Bailey’s in my coffee, I’m still getting pumped listening to the No Ceilings 2 mixtape, and it’s 2am but I’m showing no signs of going to bed. YA GIRL BEIN’ STRAIGHT RECKLESS ON A SCHOOL NIGHT!

If you didn’t cop No Ceilings 2 over the holiday weekend, you should do that; it’s very lit and the first time Lil’ Wayne’s lyrics haven’t embarrassed me in quite some time. Pour yourself some sizzurp, lean back (See what I did there?), and turn on this week’s WAS playlist.

P.s. That Bey’ and Coldplay number that was just released is real nice if you’re into that sort of thing.

I think I might be one of a select group of eccentric humans who was alternating listening to new albums from Adele, Jadakiss, and Justin Bieber on a very steady, and sonically bizarre, rotation this week.

Even if Adele doesn’t sing your preferred music, I hope you won’t deny that she is a damn angel; she’s hilarious, beautiful, and so insanely talented. The album consists of eleven stunning tracks containing lyrical wisdom well beyond her 27 years and, though this experiment has yet to be conducted, I’m positive her voice could make the toughest Guantanamo Bay inmates cry real tears. Last Saturday, SNL showed us what her track ‘Hello’ can do to calm nerves at an offensive and racist family thanksgiving dinner so I’d imagine that’s basically like hard time.

No stranger to a lil’ jail time, Jadakiss “ahhhHHAAAAA” is back with another banger. Heavy with tracks about drugs, guns, and all sorts of nefarious activities that I fully understand due to an upbringing in the murder capital of Canada…JOKES! My upbringing in the ‘burbs was lovely and far from rough but binge watching The Wire many many years back taught me some real things about the cold, hard streets. In the words of ‘ye talking about his own music, “These beats are DOPE!” and I’m all about dem fire beats.

Lastly, my transition into a full-blown Belieber is very new and I’m still adjusting to this strange world. I could do without his current Zack Morris hair and I did NOT need to see his banana sans a hammock in Bora Bora a few weeks back (THANKS, TWITTER) but this is the world we live in, I guess? Despite these minor transgressions, I actually find him likable now and this album is just so catchy that I keep coming back to it. Is it too late now to say sooooorry…for hating you all these yeaaaars? I think that’s how the lyrics go. Loving Justin Bieber is the new hating Justin Bieber in 2015/2016 so get on my level and almost every teenage girl’s very audible level.

Buy or stream these three aforementioned albums, then listen to these ten songs I enjoy that you may not have heard this week.

P.s. That Hotline Bling cover seemed to be a big hit last week so I included the first Donna Missal track I ever heard on this week’s playlist. Enjoy!

Wednesday always sneaks up on ya’ girl. I had all kinds of ideas for what I was going to write this week but I’m about to hit you with some brief realness. I’ve been feeling just plain sad about all the terrible, scary things that are going on all over the world. I feel so lucky to be where I am right now but my heart breaks for everyone who is struggling. Music is the one thing that has always kept me feeling positive no matter what is going on. I have seen so many amazing things happen through the power of music and togetherness during these recent times of tragedy. Music helps us realize that other people are feeling the way we are, music can take us away, music can bring us back to reality, and most of all music helps connect people in such an incredible way. I’ve been fortunate to meet so many people I now call my friends through our mutual love of music. Thank you for reading Wait And Scene, sending me messages, and allowing me to connect with you through the music I enjoy every week.

“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” – Plato

Sending love and positivity to everyone who is dealing with unimaginable struggles right now.

I have a pretty serious confession to make; When Adele released her new song and video for Hello, I waited a week before I listened. A WHOLE SEVEN DAYS, YOU GUYS.

Hold up?! So the girl who always tries to listen to everything before the cool kids probably listened to Hello after your mom, dad, and nerdy little brother? Absolutely, your family is cooler than me. Laugh it up. Adele’s 21 was such an important album and I was concerned that the first single wouldn’t live up to the hype. I sat and watched nearly evvvvvveryone I respect on social media re-post the video before I decided it was worthy of a listen. Surprise surprise, Adele nailed it yet again and the video is stunning. I missed a week of binge listening so it has been on repeat ever since and I’ve been searching for every cover available. I heard Stephen’s incredible upbeat version last week but decided that I shouldn’t post his tracks on back to back playlists so today is the day his cover makes its appearance.

This Adele love has me delving back into other albums with strong female vocals and wondering why some ladies aren’t famous yet. Seinabo Sey’s album continues to get me singing at the top of my lungs and doing rapid Drake hands when she gets real so why don’t more people know who she is? A video for my favorite track off the album called Poetic came out recently and it gives me those Adele feels. I have a feeling Adele will bring Seinabo on her world tour for 25 and she’ll blow up and you’ll all be saying, “Remember when I heard that new Adele song long before Jenna but she made up for it by predicting the fame of some relatively obscure artist whose name I can’t pronounce?” Just Wait And Scene and enjoy this week’s playlist.
