A lot of great music comes out every week and I want to share it with you while it’s fresh; those stank beats just ain’t the same. I don’t have time to write in-depth artist details and hilarious anecdotes about every song that I discover due to my time-consuming career molding the minds of today’s youth and my ever flourishing social life *wink*. I’ve decided to try doing a weekly posting of a ten song playlist with tracks that I’ve liked from the past week of releases. If you like this concept, lemme know and I’ll keep it up; If you hate it, just keep your mouth shut, ya ninny. Jokes! All feedback is appreciated.

I dedicate this week’s playlist to Kenneth Bruce Gorelick’s free-flowing curls; apparently he’s a little nugget at 5’2” and he’s from Seattle (Pacific Northwest, stand up!) …the things you learn when you “research” everyone’s favorite saxophonist.

Don’t get too excited, these songs have nothing to do with the G and include no smooth jazz.

Alternate titles: ‘Sisters Before Misters’ and ‘Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them’

In case the title wasn’t enough of an indication, this week’s playlist is a list of 10 songs by amazing new-ish females in music. This list came to be after I realized that a lot of my posts are about male artists in music. Sure sure, handsome men with musical talent usually make me swoon and/or make me giggly but it should be noted that I’ve met a few big time musicians this past year and played it eerily cool…I won’t mention names but one of the most exciting run-ins a few months back has an alias synonymous with Duplicate Shade (Think about it!). Anyways, men are great but this week’s playlist is set to highlight the fairer sex that I happen to be a part of. I tried to not put any women in music that you’re probably already familiar with: Grimes, Alabama Shakes, Polica, Purity Ring, Kate Boy, Aluna George, Yuna, Jessie Ware, etc. because you’ve heard a lot about them on other blogs. I really hope that my list introduces you to some artists that you may not have heard of  in the past year+ of great music. If you’ve heard of them all, well LAH DEE DAH start writing a blog so I can read it 😉

1) MØ – Pilgrim

Karen Marie Ørsted a.k.a. is a Copenhagen-based electronic pop artist who is being toted as the new Grimes because the old (?) Grimes is soo….wait, I don’t know, it’s probably just because she’s young and unique. Anyways, MØ is currently working on her debut LP but to give us all a taste of what’s to come, she has released two killer tracks, Pilgrim and Maiden; It was hard to pick a favorite but the trumpet in Pilgrim is the clincher for me. Also, the video is rad in a Keep Copenhagen Weird kinda way.

Holla Holla Holllaaaaa!

2) Daughter – Smother

Elena Tonra is a 21-year-old London Songwriter whose lyrics make me want to curl up in a ball and sulk about problems that I don’t necessarily have. Elena and her band, known as Daughter, crafted a slow, building ballad with soft guitar and piano cords that hit you when you’re the most vulnerable. My poor poor heart…

I want all that is not mine
I want him but we’re not right
