California

Caaaalifornia loveeee.

Fresh off the plane at PDX late last night and home from a perfect five days in Cali. By the last day of my short ocean vacay, this Oregon girl was finally adjusting to 80+ degree temps and that unusual, persistent big ball of fire in the sky. My ghostly white skin has “tanned” to a nice shade of eggshell and according to my coworkers, my hair is somehow more blonde than it was a few days prior. I picked up a nice arsenal of vintage jorts and a couple pairs of leather motorcycle boots in LA so I’m fully prepared if any music festival responsibilities come my way…like, verrrry ready so feel free to hook it up with any of your connects. I promise to be on my best behavior and I’ll even don a flower crown if those are still part of the music festival starter kit.

A wise woman once said:

A bad bitch can play the part of a nerd, but a nerd can’t play the part of a bad bitch.

TRUUUUUUE. Very wise. Alright, fine. I paraphrased and butchered a famous quote to suit my lifestyle. Feel free to quote me on your ‘grams.

Happy WAS Wednesday, friends!

P.s. That new Drake though…”I’m out here lookin’ for revveeeeeeenge.”

New year, new blog post, more new music, and the same old weirdo bringing it all to you. I hope you had a wonderful holiday and missed me during my fortnight off gallivanting around California. I love the golden state with all of its sunny beaches, beautiful humans, celebs, amazing shopping, colorful sunsets, Disneyland magic, cheap tacos, and TRAFFIC. ALL OF THE TRAFFIC. EVERY DAMN DAY. ALL DAY LONG. Even talking about it stresses me out and I wasn’t driving slash slept through most of it and woke up when we reached our destinations hours later. Shout outs to my chauffeurs for keeping it 1hunid!. Anyways, I’m rested (thanks to a myriad of car naps) and I’m feeling happy back home in my fav the beaver state. I’m excited to bring you a new playlist of ten tracks I’ve liked this past week…or maybe three weeks, whatever, who’s counting? She’s back, folks.

HAPPY 2016!!

XO

-Jenna

P.s. The first track on this playlist isn’t new but by now you should know I’m really into NoMBe and it seemed fitting with my past two weeks in Cali. Plus, the very end of that track…Daaaaang. Repeat.

To be honest, she’s a liar full of promise

She thinks her Rolex makes her timeless

Her famous friends think she’s harmless

I’d burn the bridge with her on it

P.p.s. Total tangent but did you know that the original voices of Mickey and Minnie Mouse were married in real life? If that doesn’t make you happy, you’re officially a lost cause. Feel free to use that fact to impress someone at the next party; You can thank me when you score the digits like, “Hey guuuurl, you like Disney facts?” Not at all creepy.

Ill artist alert! Ill artist alert! *said in the voice of 2 Chainz*

Let me start off saying that I was really bummed to find out that the group Pacific Air is no more. These brothers were a killer band and they put on an awesome live show the one time I was fortunate to see them. My best friend and I made sure to check them out during our crazy SXSW rounds two years ago. At their show at The Mohawk, I was standing next to a music blogger and we started talking about our love of Pacific Air.

I was like, “Yeah, I was a fan of these guys when they put out their EP and were still called KOKO!”

and he’s all, “Holy $#!+ ME TOO! That’s crazy, no one else knows that stuff.”

and his girlfriend was like, “Hey guys, I’m here too you know…”

And I’m all, “Get on your boyfriend’s level and maybe you can keep up.”

Oh snap! That’s cold.

Fine, I’m actually a nice girl. That last part with the girlfriend didn’t happen but I could sense her ‘tude and hear her sighs as her boyfriend and I geeked out on good music. Here’s hoping that blogger and his girlfriend know that the now defunct Pacific Air’s lead singer, Ryan Lawhon, has a solo project and he has put out these two perfect tracks for our listening pleasure.

BOTH SO GOOD. I can’t wait to hear more,

R. Kells is right, I’m ’bout to have me some fun.

So it’s the second weekend in April and I’m not at Coachella but that’s okay, Vice told me that basic b*tches love Coachella and I have a bad b*tch reputation to uphold. Also, even the nighttime weather in Indio isn’t appropriate for leather so what’s the point really?

Oregon has been pretending to be Cali this whole week and no one is complaining. It’s been 70+ degrees and sunny everyday so I’ve been overwhelmingly happy. I’ve been wearing less black on black, my penchant for witch trap has all but vanished ($T▲Y Ha†in’), and these positive vibes have allowed me to discover so many quality tracks this week. I’m going to keep this entry hella short so I can get back outside but feel free to listen to these tracks on repeat while you enjoy this beautiful weekend and quite possibly pop cristal in the stretch navigator.

Bounce bounce bounce.

Shlohmo – Later

01-14-2013

New music Monday! There have been so many songs that I wanted to blog about in the past week but a player can’t stop the game to write so I’ve fallen off the map again, if only briefly. Fine, I am indeed not a playa…I just crush a lot 😉

I’m still pressed for time but, since many of you are music junkies like me, I though I’d hit you with a quick fix to stop the jitters. NO, it’s not going to be that new JT. I posted about it on my Facebook Fanpage yesterday (follow that!)  but I refuse to write about it. For starters, I like to think that Wait And Scene is not blogging about the things that everyone has already heard and for seconds (?), let’s be real, it’s good and catchy but it’s not THAT amazing. Remember Cry Me a River? Much more top shelf stuff.

I’ve decided to blog about LA-producer Shlohmo instead because I like him and he has swallowed up a good chunk of my Monday evening with this elephantine track (…just nod). This is one of five songs on his upcoming EP ‘Laid Out’ said to be released on March 5th. If you would have played me this song five or so years ago, I would’ve been all, “Coo coo but where are the vocals?” because I was once hard as a rock (not to be confused with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson) and I wasn’t moved by the powers of  an instrumental track. Today, I sit here listening to this song on repeat, eyes closed, doing a slow-mo (Shlohmo!) version of the Harlem Shake in my recliner. Imagine it and embrace it. I’ve played it ten times in a row so far and every time I listen I feel something new. If you don’t like this song come back to it in five years and see if you’ve managed to get on my level or, more impressively, Shlohmo’s level. Man, I’m snarky on Mondays.

Toodles!

-Jenna

P.S. I’m pretty sure I haven’t mentioned my March travel plans in past blog entries (cue *eye rolls*) but I hope to see Shlohmo in Austin at SXSW about a week after the EP release.
