Have you guys noticed that so many seemingly unknown artists are releasing fire covers lately? I’ve definitely taken note and I’ve been peppering my favs into these playlists. Earlier this week, I was passively listening to my S-cloud feed and all of a sudden I’m like, “Hmm how do I know all the lyrics to this song? Wait, a girl named Billie Jean may or may not be this guy’s lover? I know this!”

You can’t deny that the above picture of the King of Pop is amazing for a couple key reasons: First, Michael’s resting bitch face is on point and that judging glaze can follow you around a room; Second, Bubbles the chimp has solid I woke up like dis hair and that pose leads me to believe he was all, “I’m just casually hanging out here waiting for some Jesus juice but if you want to take my picture, I’m cool with it.” Heh. Too soon?

Did anyone else forget that Michael had a chimp BFF in the 80s? Life was wiiild back in those days!…or so I’ve heard. I’m much too young to know what anything was like before the late 90s *wink*. This is one of those instances when I wish the lie WOULD become the truth; You know, like Michael’s mom always told him…

And mother always told me be careful of who you love
And be careful of what you do ’cause the lie becomes the truth

I’ll see myself out.

XO

There is no song that could have been more perfect for today. Mondays are always tough but this one especially so because it was my first day back to the daily grind after a two-week vacation.

I mostly feel I had a good day… It wasn’t that GREAT.

Naw, it was fine. I have one of the best jobs ever but I really REALLY like vacations; it’s one shocking trait that makes me unique from everyone else in the world. Today I needed a new upbeat track to remind me that, despite the necessity of a full-time job to support my music addiction, life is pretty great. These guys delivered!

I’ve been listening to New York indie Ra Ra Riot for ye ye years…weak, Jenna, weak. I was one of the lucky (read: super hip) ones that got their first self-titled EP (cop this) back in ’07. Dying Is Fine and Ghost Under Rocks continue to be a couple of their best tracks and their cover of Kate Bush’s hit Suspended in Gaffa on the 2008 debut LP The Rhumb Line (cop that) is still so beautiful…I say that as if music gets progressively ugly over time. (“Yikes! Looking rough, Pachelbel’s Canon, you haven’t aged well.”… “Pssst, I think Symphony #5 had some work done.”)

See, it’s still purrdy..

Ra Ra Riot’s new LP Beta Love comes out on January 22 through Barsuk Records. They’ve been releasing tracks over the last couple months to let us know what we’re supposed to know about the album in a couple week’s time…because bands are really bad at keeping secrets. First we heard the title track Beta Love, then we heard When I dream, and now we’re hearing the opening track Dance With Me. They all sound great but so far this upbeat, dancy track is my fav.

They’re going on tour in support of the new stuff right after the album release. Check out the tour dates here. Wait And Scene will be at the Portland show on February 9th at the Wonder Ballroom. Will you? If your answer is yes, come and dance with me pretty, sweet fool, I wanna be your…toy?…wait…that got creepy real fast. Anywhoooo….

Voici.

You’re telling me that I promised you a ten song playlist every single week!?  “OOPS, DID I DO THAT?“, said in my best high-pitched, nasally Urkle voice. That’s a tall order, but a promise is a promise so Wait And Scene will deliver.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any CHEESE (obscure Family Matters reference), but I do have ten of the illest tracks from around the world!

1) Ryan Hemsworth Remix of Mikky Ekko- Pull Me Down

When the song Pull Me Down by Nashville singer-songwriter Mikky Ekko came out a month ago, I will couldn’t stop listening. His voice! Those lyrics! Produced by the ever amazing Clams Casino! It was all too much. Today we got a remix of this beautiful song by 21-year-old Canadian producer, Ryan Hemsworth. As he often does when he remixes, Hemsworth somehow manages to make this song even more special. I’m dying over here…

2) Brandon Fletcher – North Hollywood

Brandon Fletcher is a name that you probably don’t know now but I have a feeling you will pretty soon… This Harlem-based rapper released a dope seven song EP called Braille back in October and he gave us a taste of this song on that EP. This week, the entire new track called North Hollywood was released and it didn’t disappoint. The Pretty Woman intro and Dave Chappelle sample halfway through are killer. This song is about a girl from Miami who’s struggling to live the Hollywood lifestyle. Is it a totally far-fetched story that no one can relate to? Naw, I’m sure you’ve seen this once or a hundred times in the media…one good current example (and the picture that Brandon used as a visual for this single) rhymes with dinsey mohan.  REPEAT.
