phantogram

Wait And Scene is here to present you a new track by Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky featuring (almost) everyone that’s a big deal in the rap game right now! Last month WAS talked A$AP’s feature on that icy Big Bio and Phantogram track here. Based on his past releases and this tracked that leaked today, I have a feeling that Long. Live. A$AP is going to destroy the world…I know the Mayans predicted December 21st but I’m thinking this album release on January 15th will be the nail in the apocalyptic coffin. Okay, so I’m being dramatic but don’t say I didn’t warn you; this song is so hot! Hit-Boy delivered a classic old-school beat and Kendrick Lamar, Big K.R.I.T, Yelawolf, Danny Brown, Joey Bada$$, and Action Bronson had nothing to do one day (famous rappers never have plans) so they each laid down the grimiest lyrics over said beat…then smoked all the cheeba, drank all the booze, ate all the pizza, and chilled happily ever after. The End.

I’m just guessing, I wasn’t there! I’ve been at a few Yela concerts in the past and a plethora of other rap shows so I feel like I have background to make these assumptions.

Favorite verse? Tough call but for me it’s probably Big K.R.I.T; I love that southern rapper steez.

How could you ever doubt me? Most rappers hoping the world ends so they won’t have to drop another album.

Totally.

Check out the six plus minutes of heat below.

I’ve debated writing this post for the last two days but I decided that you, the people, must know! A new Jai Paul demo appeared online early yesterday morning. Apparently it is a radio rip from a station in the United Kingdom but there are no real details as far as a name or the reason for the drop and subsequent quick removal of the track online. It could be called “Flip Out” or it could be called “I read WAS on the daily”…we know nothing.

Yesterday morning, I was out shopping at a large home decorating store with a few of my friends when I did a peruse of my online feed. “A NEW TRACK FROM JAI PAUL!!!”, I emphatically profess, “I’ve been waiting for this forever!!!” No one I’m with knows what this means…I turn up the volume on my phone, halt everyone from getting their home decorate on, and get them to take in the new sounds with me.

This track, now known as “I read WAS on the daily”…okay fine, “Flip Out“, sounds like it should be in a movie. It is full of impressive orchestral sounds, Jai’s signature R&B vocals, and the kind of production that both confuses and impresses me. I think I hear a lot of angry birds too…like samples of real angry birds that would scare the kaka out of you if you were their target, Hitchcock style. This song is weird but in the best way. Hopefully, it won’t be taken down anytime soon and you can go listen to it HERE.

Because you weren’t shopping for bathmats and furniture with us, I’m going to give you a little background on this guy and explain why I was so excited; my friends got this explanation live (Poor kids). Jai Paul is a British songwriter and record producer from the UK who is signed to big deal independent record label XL Recordings. His first demo BTSTU got crazy coverage online and on UK radio in 2010. Then, FINALLY, he gave us another demo early this year called Jasmine; more hype and accolades ensued throughout this year but the man continues to keep a low-pro. The only thing we do know is that the two tracks below, that he legitimately dropped online, and this new one, that is even more mysterious than the others, keep us wanting more. Jai Paul knows how to play this game…

P.s. One exciting fact that we do know about Jai Paul is that he is on a long list of artist that are going to be featured on the new Big Boi album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, set to be released on December 11th. The track is called Higher Res and, in addition to Jai Paul, it also features Swedish electronic band Little Dragon. Other feats on this soon-to-be-released album include: T.I., Ludacris, Kid Cudi, Killer Mike, Kelly Rowland, B.o.B., Wavves, Theophilis London, UGK, Big K.R.I.T, and more. Oh and three Phantogram collabs…one which I featured here. Eeeeeeep!!!

ATLians stand up! Unless you’ve been under a music-proof rock for the past 10 years, y’all know who Big Boi is; an American rapper, producer, songwriter, and sometimes actor from Atlanta and the other half of OutKast with the man, André 3000. In 2010 he released his solo debut, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty (cop that), which became an instant classic. On December 11th, we’ll have another Big Boi solo album called Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors that I guarantee you’ll have worn out by the time the chocolate yule log hits the table. Wait, what?…Just my fancy way of saying before the holidays.

Big Boi just released this track off of that upcoming album release. LINES is a collab with A$AP Rocky and Phantogram. A$AP is a rapper from NYC who has been doing big things the past couple years (cop: LiveLoveA$AP mixtape for free) and Phatogram is an indie pop duo from Saratoga Springs, New York who gave me the opportunity to have the sweatiest night I’ve ever had in public when they played in Portland at the Wonder Ballroom this summer. They are AWESOME live (cop: Eyelid Movies).

With a combination of three artists that I’m a fan of, this song did not disappoint and I’ve been bumping it on repeat all weekend long. Your turn!
